Is Tai Chi a martial art?
There is a naïve concept that the Tai Chi Chuan style has specific internal and external "applications" that contain supposedly the only “correct postures”, used to exclusively promote health and healing. In this belief system it is surmised that without such "applications" Tai Chi ought to be “empty” and thus would not effect health benefits, because martial (aggressive, warrior-like) movements were to be essential. Its claim is that Tai Chi should be “combative” by involving all aspects of “self defense”.
Thus, innocent people are lured into the bogus of believing that authenticity would depend on a particular martial arts form, as opposed supposed to the modern-day, internal arts Tai Chi forms that would not generate the flow of revitalizing and healing energy. To the contrary, in the evolved styles of modern-day Tai Chi one will find all health and healing benefits, yet they are not mixed with aggression (often camouflaged as “self defense”).
It is a well-known fact around the globe that the most extant Tai Chi styles are peaceful. Once practiced correctly, one can reap great benefits. Hence, so many famous Chinese and American masters have promoted them.
